Dec 8, 2017   Annual Christmas Party     (by reservations only)

Dec 15, 2017   Christmas Light Hike, Massillon, Oh (Joe)

Nov 17, 2017   Club Meeting at TWC  7:30pm           Take a Hike  6:30 pm        Program:  Hiking Stories

__ Take a Hike Day occurs every year on November 17.  This year it happens to be our meeting night.  How could a hiking club meet on such a night and not hike or not have a hike theme program?
__6:30 pm Hike the Wilderness Walk Tr, starting from the Lakeview shelter.  This hike should take 30-45 minutes.  Will cancel for heavy rain or wind.  Remember flashlights and hiking sticks.
__7:30 pm  Club meeting.  Program / entertainment will be  "Your Hikes". Tell us your most memorable,  most favorite place to go,  dumbest-ever mistake, etc.

Nov 5, 2017   Dayhike     Tappan Lake     Dan/Joyce    1:00 pm       [ earlier hike time due to daylight saving time ]
_Tappan Lake State Park will be the location of the November 5 dayhike. Due to the time change that day the start time will be at 1:00 pm. We will be hiking the trails within the park and will have several options as to how far or long we can hike. There are about 12 miles of trails in the park that are divided up into 3 or 4 loops. The trails are in very good condition and should be fairly easy walking with moderate ups and downs.
__Tappan Lake State Park is located 30 miles south of New Philadelphia on State Route 250. Take I-77 south to the Uhrichsville/ Cadiz exit, and 250 east. Follow 250 east to Deersville Rd. When you past the dam and first see the lake, it’s about 5 more miles, at the back end of the lake. There’s a Tappan Lake Park sign at Deersville Rd. Turn right on Deersville Rd. and go 3.8 miles to the sign into the park on your right. There are rest rooms in the park near the parking lot. Hoping to see a good turnout.  Dinner after hike.... El Pueblito Mexican Cuisine. The best Mexican restaurant in T-county.       Tappan Lake Park...  Google MAP HERE             PARK MAP HERE

Oct 8, 2017   Dayhike    Richfield Heritage Preserve   Richfield, Oh   Summit County    (Kim/Carol)    1:00 pm
__Richfield Heritage Preserve (formerly known as Crowell Hilaka) is 336 acres of wonderful treasures. Once the estates of two prominent families (one being famous inventory Kirby—yes, the sweeper) for a hundred years, then a girl scout camp for about 75 years, the city of Richfield purchased it in 2015. Now folks like us are fortunate enough to be permitted to wander the trails and ogle the many historical buildings (including the castle-like Amity House that was owned by the Neal family). There are two lakes, a river, a secret waterfall, a hydroelectric mill, and numerous other sights to behold that you won’t want to miss.

On Saturday, we’ll spot a car at the hikes end and start at Barbour Rock Trail then continuing on the West Rim to Seimons Trail to camp. (I’ll get water info to you before the trip.)  On Sunday, we’ll head to the car left at Little Slate Run.  This trip promises beautiful vistas and fairly comfortable hiking.  Saturday’s hike is about 10 miles along the rim and Sunday’s about 3 miles.   Please let me know by Monday if you are planning on coming so I can reserve camping Friday.

Aug 6, 2017    Dayhike   Buckeye Trail,  Mogadore section  ,  Mogadore, Oh     Ken/Cheryl)
__Join Ken and Cheryl  for an easy 4.5 mile walk on the Buckeye Trail as it follows along Mogadore Reservoir east of Akron, Oh.  We will meet at the marina parking area.  Since this is a lineal trail we will need to shuttle hikers to the other end of the trail off of Saxe Rd. (parking is limited here).  The group can then hike back to the cars at the marina.  Expect the hike to be about 2.5 hours.
__The trail is fairly level and mostly follows old road grades.  Be warned though that there some sections that are on narrow foot trails with poison ivy along the path.  Most of the trail will be in trees and shaded with just a few open (sunny) areas.  Hopefully we won't have a beastly hot day for this hike.
__After the hike, for your dining pleasure, we can go to Farmer Boy Restaurant (1324 Canton Rd, Akron)   close to SR 224 and SR 91.  This is a family style restaurant.  Moderately priced.  They will reserve an area for our group.  And they have pie!

Jan 20, 2017   Club Meeting at TWC  7:30pm    Trip planning for the 2017 season...     Dayhikes and Backpacks
___It time again to get some hikes on the calendar for the coming year.  Have a hike you would like to suggest?  Have a hike you would like to volunteer to lead?  Have a favorite place you would like to share?  Bring your ideas.  Hikes can range from easy walks of a couple of hours to more challenging  all day hikes.  Backpacks are generally weekend trips but could be longer.

___Our club is fortunate that we have many members that are willing to be trip leaders but new trip leaders are ALWAYS welcome.  Would you like to lead a hike but are not sure about being the trip leader?  Just say so. It's not difficult.  We have many experienced hikers that would be glad to co-lead a hike and be your advisor.  This is true for dayhikes and backpacks.

___The great thing about our club is that you will see some of the same hikers year after year and gather knowledge and friendships. There is never a question that if someone needed help on a hike there will be others that would offer assistance.  This is in marked difference to many internet groups where everyone is only looking out for themselves.

Jan 22, 2017   Dayhike   Quail Hollow (State) Park   Hartville     2:00pm    (Ken & Cheryl)

___Hike distance:   3 to 4 miles  (2-2.5 hr)
Hike rating: easy to moderate.   Forecast is for about 50 degrees.  With more rain on the way the trails could be muddy especially if we walk on any of the horse trails.
___Restroom available at parking area
___Dinner:  Mi Casa Mexican in Hartville     http://www.micasahartville.com
